About Acreage Guide

Acreage Guide exists for a simple reason: the most expensive parts of a rural home are the ones nobody explains. Septic systems, wells, backup power — they fail quietly, cost five figures to fix, and the available advice is either a contractor's sales pitch or a forum thread from 2013.

What we do

We research one system at a time and write the guide we wish existed before we had to spend money on it: how it works, what maintenance actually matters, what things cost, and when the right answer is "call a licensed professional."

How we make money (eventually)

This site is new. Our plan is reader-supported revenue: clearly disclosed affiliate commissions on products we'd recommend anyway, and eventually introductions to vetted local pros. What we'll never do: take money for rankings, placements, or positive reviews. Our affiliate disclosure spells it out.

Editorial standards

• No invented numbers. Costs and specifications are sourced or explicitly flagged as estimates needing verification.
• Skeptical of miracle cures. Additives with wild claims get the scrutiny they deserve.
• Pros over products. When a problem needs a contractor, we say so instead of selling you a bottle.
• Corrections welcome. If we get something wrong, tell us and we'll fix it.

Articles are researched and written by Acreage Guide. We cite established guidance (like EPA homeowner recommendations) where it exists and label our own judgment as judgment.
